Although the weather was hotter than predicted, Mr. Selfish and I still managed to tour the notable wats in Chiang Mai. First, we took a songthaew (a pick-up truck converted into a taxi) up Doi Suthep to visit Wat Phrathat. The elevation at the wat is about 3,500 feet, and I already had problems with my breath as we were going up the mountain. I have certainly learned that I am prone to elevation sickness.

Visiting the Pagodas and Temples in Dalat

Mr. Selfish and I signed up for a day tour of Dalat, during which we were able to choose eight attractions to visit. Half of our attractions ended up being pagodas or temples. Our tour guide noted that we wanted to see lots of pagodas and pagodas and asked me if I was Buddhist. I replied in the negative but told him that I wanted to visit them because I thought they were beautiful. I was proven correct that day in Dalat.

First, we went to the Linh Phước Pagoda, which is a relatively modern pagoda that was constructed in 1950. It was quite beautiful, especially because it was a bright, sunny day. Many of the designs and creatures are made from beer bottles. Mr. Selfish opted to climb the tower whereas I stayed below. It wasn’t due to laziness but because the photo ops are better that way.

The Beautiful Temples in Bali

I was originally pretty blasé about visiting Bali, but Mr. Selfish was quite persistent. He really wanted to visit Bali. Eventually, I started googling images of Bali. This was when I discovered all of the beautiful temples in Bali and was persuaded into including Bali in our itinerary.

Bali is known as the “island of the gods” due to the numerous temples all over the island. While we didn’t make it to the Mother Temple (I figured we could save it for the next trip), we did go to Tanah Lot Temple, which is the gorgeous temple set on the water. Tanah Lot actually means “Land in the Sea” and is one of the seven sea temples in Bali.
