Enjoying Afternoon Tea at the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong

January 4, 2014 1:30 am

The last time Mr. Selfish and I were in Hong Kong, we attempted to go to afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong in Kowloon, which is the 2nd tallest hotel in the world. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it because we didn’t have a reservation and it was a Saturday. This time around, we reserved window seats for afternoon tea.

Mr. Selfish and I found the view of Hong Kong from the Ritz to be quite spectacular.

The food and tea were also quite good. We had the traditional tea with three layers – two sweet and one savory.

The bottom sweet layer had: two lychee and mango shots and scones with clotted cream and jam. Both were quite tasty, and we found the clotted cream to be just right.

The middle sweet layer had: a vanilla sable, a pistachio raspberry, a caramel café pavé, a coconut “bomb,” and a flourless chocolate feuilletine. All of them were quite tasty but we remember the coconut “bomb” as being the best.

Lastly, the top savory layer had three types of finger sandwiches: a sundried tomato on spinach bread Swiss roll, a duck foie gras mousse on coffee bread Swiss roll, and a pickled cucumber on tomato bread Swiss roll.

Hands-down, the foie gras sandwich was the best. The mix of the creamy foie with coffee was a stroke of genius!

Although it cost $625 HKD, which is approximately $80 USD ($568 HKD plus 10% service charge), it was worth it for the view, the ambience, and the tasty treats for afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong.

Next up on the blog is the Maldives portion of our trip. Mr. Selfish will go over how we arrived at the Conrad Rangali in the Maldives.

  1. Wow, this looks amazing! We enjoyed the high tea at the Peninsula in Hong Kong a few years ago, but we’ll definitely have to make a reservation for high tea at the Ritz Carlton the next time that we’re in that part of the world.
