La Rambla, Barri Gotic, and Boqueria Market in Barcelona

December 19, 2012 6:42 am

Aside from Gaudi, Barcelona has some interesting areas to explore. First, there is La Rambla, which is a pedestrian shopping street. It was nice walking down the street with all of the Christmas decorations up. We didn’t buy anything on La Rambla, but we did people watch.

La Rambla also contains the Boqueria market. You can buy spices, ham, cheese, candy, fruit, veggies, and all sorts of goodies at the market. I loved all of the wild mushrooms that were in season when we were visiting.

Also, nearby is Barri Gotic, which is the gothic neighborhood. Although I read that Barcelona recently built its gothic neighborhood for the tourists, it is still nice to walk around.

Finally, we visited the Santa Maria del Mar in the gothic neighborhood. Construction began on the church in 1329, so at least the church is authentic.

In the next post, I’ll go over a cooking class we took while in Barcelona.
